Mazda remained an import brand, sourcing Mazda vehicles from Japan, Thailand and Malaysia. In October 2019, General Motors Indonesia announced that it would exit the Indonesian market entirely by 31 March 2020. Later in February 2020 GM also exited Thailand and Australia, leaving GM without any major presence in right-hand drive markets. The brand was re-introduced in Indonesia in 2001 with the Chevrolet Tavera, a rebadged Isuzu Panther, and the imported Zafira and Blazer V6 4×4. In 2002, the locally-assembled Opel Blazer was renamed to Chevrolet Blazer.

The move to equip vehicles with increasingly sophisticated driver assistance systems, and eventually to make the vehicle fully autonomous, requires a combination of object detection and imaging sensors. By combining radar detectors, cameras and optical depth sensing systems such as LiDAR, a vehicle can capture a detailed, real-time view of the space around it, while building in redundancy to protect against the failure of any one sensor. It is estimated that 80% of all innovations in the automotive industry today are directly or indirectly enabled by electronics. With vehicle functionality improving with every new model, this means a continuous increase in the semiconductor content per car. The evolution towards an electric mobility is creating a paradigm shift for the automotive and energy sectors. In the future, we will see countless new business models that combine profitability and sustainability — going far beyond the sale of vehicles, electricity and batteries.
The plant’s location met GM’s philosophy of “build where we sell and source where we build.” Mitsubishi through PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors has a long presence in Indonesia, but their first true hit was the Colt T120. This was a locally built version of the first generation Mitsubishi Delica, Automotive and from its introduction in the early 1970s it became a seminal vehicle. It was mostly alone in its class and for a generation of Indonesians “Colt” became synonymous with minibus. The T120 was finally discontinued in 1982 and replaced by the L300 ; but sales never reached their earlier highs.

Production processes that use a significant volume of water include surface treatment, painting, coating, washing, cooling, air-conditioning and boilers, not counting component manufacturing. Paintshop operations consume especially large amounts of water, because equipment running on water-based products must also be cleaned with water. In 2007, there were about 806 million cars and light trucks on the road, consuming over 980 billion litres of gasoline and diesel fuel yearly. The automobile is a primary mode of transportation for many developed economies. The Detroit branch of Boston Consulting Group predicted that, by 2014, one-third of world demand would be in the four BRIC markets . Meanwhile, in the developed countries, the automotive industry has slowed.
The company built plant with 15,000 vehicle capacity in Bekasi, West Java. The first locally made product of the new company was the Opel Vectra , followed by the Opel Optima and the Opel Blazer SUV as the first right-hand drive Blazer in 1995. The Land Cruiser dominated the “Jeep” category until the early 1980s, when lighter and more economical competitors began taking away its market share. Unable to compete with the smaller offerings from Suzuki and Daihatsu, Toyota chose to not further increase the local content levels of the Land Cruiser and had withdrawn it from the Indonesian market by 1986.
OAA members are working closely on technical research for reducing driver distraction. The Open Automotive Alliance is a group of technology and automotive companies who have come together to bring the best of Android into the automobile in a seamless and driver-centric way that helps minimize distraction. “Becoming a member of the Open Automotive Alliance offers us a great opportunity to explore how we will bring a familiar set of Android features into our Chrysler Group, Abarth, Alfa Romeo and Fiat Uconnect systems globally. This membership will complement our mission to enable drivers to stay conveniently connected while keeping their hands on the wheel and their focus on driving.” -Alan Amici, Head of Uconnect Systems and Services, Chrysler Group LLC.
The process evolved from engineers working on a stationary car, to a conveyor belt system where the car passed through multiple stations of more specialized engineers. Starting in the 1960s, robotic equipment was introduced to the process, and today most cars are produced largely with automated machinery. The VW Group is one of the most successful automotive groups in the world. ŠKODA, in association with the Group, independently manufactures and develops vehicles, as well as components, engines and gear transmissions.
